Village Zoning Updates

The Village is currently developing targeted updates to their Zoning Code to bring it in line with the vision identified in the Main Street Streetscape Plan. The project is being funded by the Adirondack/Glens Falls Transportation Council (A/GFTC) and led by an Advisory Committee with assistance from The Chazen Companies. Additional information on the project’s progress will be posted on the Village’s website and Facebook page, and public events to provide input on the project will be widely publicized.

The Village has been advancing on the Main Street Zoning Code update project that began earlier this spring. The draft code updates are in line with the vision of the Village’s Main Street Streetscape Plan and include providing greater parking flexibility and predictability for new development along Main Street. 

NOTICE is hereby given that the Village of Greenwich Board of Trustees will hold a Public Hearing on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 7 PM in the Village Office, 6 Academy Street, Greenwich, NY 12834, to consider a series of amendments to the Village of Greenwich Zoning Code. The proposed Zoning Code amendments would update outdated parking regulations and ensure that new development along Main Street is pedestrian-friendly and in line with the vision of the 2019 Main Street Streetscape Plan. The primary components of the proposed zoning code amendments are (1) establishing a Main Street Overlay District generally along the Village’s Main Street Corridor between Church/Academy Street and Mill Hollow; (2) establishing a site plan review process that would apply within the Overlay District; (3) providing supplemental design guidelines for the Overlay District that would be considered as part of site plan review; (4) updating parking requirements to reflect current Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE) parking requirements and allow greater flexibility; (5) incorporating definitions and guidelines for food trucks and electric vehicle charging stations; and (6) additional updates to address ambiguity and inconsistencies. The proposed Zoning Code amendment is available at the Village Clerk’s Office, at 6 Academy Street, Greenwich, NY 12834 for public inspection during regular office hours (Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday 8 AM – 4 PM, Wednesday 12 PM – 4 PM, and Friday 8 AM – 12 PM).

Public comments may also be submitted in writing to the Village Clerk, Jane Dowling at clerk@villageofgreenwich.org by Monday, March 14, 2022, at 5 PM.
